The Greene County Rams lost a baseball game to the Gilbert Tigers 6-2 in Gilbert Friday.
Senior pitcher Riah Nelsen took his first loss of the season. He pitched five innings, allowed six hits, struck out seven batters and walked three. Five of the hits were in the fourth inning, during which Gilbert scored four of their six runs. Senior Colton Fitzpatrick pitched the sixth inning and agave up two earned runs.
Greene County had five hits, all singles. They had other base runners who were hit by pitches, walked, or advanced via errors, but 11 were stranded on base without running.
Both Ram runs came in the seventh inning – one on a wild pitch and the other on an error.
The Gilbert Tigers are 20-3 overall and 12-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The loss put the Rams at 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the HOIAC.
